Body of a 44-year-old English man resident in Molvízar (Granada), who was reported missing by his family several days ago, was found in a dried-up river bed near Órgiva yesterday. An autopsy will be performed today, but it seems, at this stage, that investigators are not ruling out the possibility that the man may have taken his own life as his van was found abandoned nearby. A Guardia Civil mountain rescue team was called in to recover the body, which was found at the foot of a very high bridge on the N-323 freeway.

Jamones Fernando SL

Antonio Herrero, who owned a ham company in Trevelez near Granada, was detained by Interpol officers in the Dominican Republic.
Police believe Herrero, 50, used his position as director of the CajaGranada bank in Trevelez to defraud 25 million euros from his victims.
Telling them they would see handsome returns, he misled 300 residents of the Granada town into investing money into his failing ham business.
Instead he absconded from Spain, spending the money on his lavish lifestyle first in Panama and then the Dominican Republic, where he was arrested on December 12.
Following his extradition to Spain he appeared before judges in Órgiva, telling the court how he fled in October 2004 as his ham business was “in ruins.”
During the four-hour hearing, he said his company first got into financial difficulties in 2000 before he started asking Trevelez residents to invest in Jamones Fernando SL.

We have sources who tip us off -2 thousand cannabis plants

Posted On Thursday, December 27, 2007 1 comments

2 thousand cannabis plants have been seized following drug raids on plastic greenhouses (invernaderos). Police found 664 plants during a raid on an invernadero, which are normally used to grow fruit and vegetables for northern Europe, near Albuñol . The plastic drugs bust followed a raid on a greenhouse nearby, when civil guards found 560 plants.
In total, four marijuana factories on the Granada coast have been found under plastic since the middle of August. Explaining the increase in the number of drug raids on invernaderos, a police spokesman said: “We have sources who tip us off. We can then locate the greenhouse and their owners. However, some are like cuckoos and it is difficult to locate them.”
