Agents from Seprona, the Guardia Civil Environment Protection Agency, and the Almería local police have captured a young ‘Macaca Silvanus’, more popularly known as a Gibraltar monkey.

The animal was found in the La Pipa area of Almería after a local resident alerted Seprona that it was on the loose. Local Police then established a watch until indeed the monkey was spotted, but found it was impossible to catch because it was so aggressive. They called in help from the municipal zoo and a tranquilising dart was successfully fired.

Following capture the Guardia Civil confirmed it was a male Gibraltar Monkey which they think must have been abandoned. The chances of the animal having made its own way from Gibraltar are considered minimal.
