Spanish webpage reports Gibraltar claiming wider waters in the Strait: "Spanish website, ‘ElConfidencialDigital’ has claimed that the Gibraltar Government sent the European Union a letter last August in which a map showed that it considered practically all of the waters of the Strait where now Gibraltar waters.
The article claims the British Admiralty on the rock sent the letter to which there has been no institutional response from the Spanish Government.
The webpage quotes diplomatic sources saying that the Gibraltar Government had ordered a submarine search be carried out over last summer in waters not of its jurisdiction, and after seeing that no Spanish authority tried to impede such activities, then decided to declare the area as belonging to the Rock."
