Murcia company investigated for making female staff wear a toilet sign around their necks to use the bathroom

Wednesday, October 05, 2011 |

Employment inspectors are investigating a Murcia fruit company whose staff are obliged to wear a ‘toilet’ sign with the word ‘aseo’ around their necks after asking for permission to use the bathroom. They are also limited to a maximum of five minutes in the bathroom. El País indicates that the company rule only applies to the female members of staff. Unions describe it as ‘denigrating’ and ‘discriminating’ and report that two women who made the company rules public last week have now lost their jobs. It’s understood that the company’s two businesses in Cieza and Alhama de Murcia are both being investigated.
