woman who suffered serious burns in an accident at a local fiesta on Gran Canaria died in hospital on Wednesday, a week after she was hurt in the street performance known as the ‘Suelta del perro maldito’ - ‘The release of the cursed dog’, in Valsequillo. She is named by EFE as María Dolores Cano, a 51 year old woman from neighbouring Telde, who was one of three women who remained in Intensive Care at the Hospital Insular in Las Palmas after the accident on Wednesday night last week. A man who was also seriously hurt is under treatment in the specialised burns unit of the Virgen del Rocío Hospital in Sevilla. A number of others suffered minor burns when fire which is used in the performance set light to one of the actor’s costumes. The Suelta del perro maldito represents the battle between good and evil as part of the San Miguel fiestas which are held in Valsequillo every year.
